$4 Million Funding Approved

The Olympic Kingsway Sports Club is set to become a first class facility with West Australian Premier Mark McGowan announcing the club will receive a $4 million facility upgrade.

Mr McGowan said the funding was part of the State’s COVID-19 response package to create jobs while also contributing towards sport and local community infrastructure.

“It’s an exciting announcement,” Olympic Kingsway President Steven Nelkovski said.

“This is a landmark day for the Green Machine and the local community. The upgrades will now provide Olympic Kingsway with a venue to attract international fixtures.

“With the FIFA women’s World Cup coming to Australia and Perth in 2023, Olympic will now have the opportunity to host pre-tournament training camps and lead-up fixtures.

“These upgrades will inspire the next generation.”

The Premier confirmed, the funding would be used to improve and upgrade the lighting capacity at Kingsway Reserve so games can be televised plus adding artificial surfaces.

Sports Minister Mick Murray and Margaret Quirk MLA were at the historic announcement along with City of Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts.

“We like to thank the Premier, Mr Murray, Ms Quirk and the Mayor for their incredible support towards this project.” Nelkovski added.

“The $4 million will create a facility that will be crucial to sports participation and growth for the next 50 years.
