Green Machine claim league and cup double

Olympic Kingsway have completed a league and cup double to end a difficult 2020 Football West Division 1 season in the best possible fashion.

The Green Machine finished in second position on the State League Division 1 ladder on 20 points, eight behind Western Knights, before the league was broken into top and bottom half competitions after the league’s 12 teams had played each other once.

Like the regular season, the Upper Table competition saw the six teams play each other once with the team finishing with the best record from those fixtures crowned champions.

Olympic finished on 10 points after claiming three wins and a draw from their five games, two points ahead of Western Knights, to claim the silverware and title of Division 1 champions.

Things went from great to better for the Green Machine on Saturday October 10 after defeating Fremantle City 2-0 in the final of the State League Division 1 Top Four Cup to claim the double.

Olympic left it until late in the final, with Ajak Riak breaking the deadlock in the 80th minute and Chris Balazs ensuring the result with a goal just two minutes later.
